Blessed with some of the most gorgeous countryside in Europe if not the world (not to mention perhaps the best wine around), Burgundy is a place everyone should explore at least once. And the best way to do it is from the deck of an ambling river barge. Visit small villages and first-rate wineries, bike through forests and vineyards on a provided bicycle, and soak up the glorious sunshine, all with the help of a charming little hotel that goes where you go. You won’t get a better glimpse of Burgundy’s pastoral pleasures than this.

What's Included

6 nights aboard the Danièle canal barge. Cycling in the vineyards of Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits with wine tasting. Visits to Saint-Jean-de-Losne and Petit-Ouges. Free time to explore historic Beaune and Dijon. All transport to/from included activities and between destinations. Use of bicycles during shore excursions.

Flights to/from Paris and the connector train from Paris to Dijon will be costs in addition to the land-only price. Estimated pricing is provided below, with final price expected by August 2018.


Cruise up the canals of Burgundy aboard the Danièle, sip local wines and sample regional dishes, cycle through villages and vineyards, relax in the onboard Jacuzzi as the scenery glides by.

Activity Level

Passengers will be required to walk during land excursions, and cycle for the duration of cycling excursions. The cycling routes on this tour are moderately challenging, with a few inclined paths (approximately 40 km / 25 miles per route).

Travelling through the locks on the Burgundy River is a highlight of this trip.

Cruise Itinerary

Day 1: Travel

Fly from eastern Canada gateway to Paris.

Day 2: Arrival

Arrive in Paris. Train from Paris to Dijon (340 km). Orientation from your G Adventures Chief Experience Officer. Accommodation at hotel in Dijon.

Day 3: Explore Dijon & Cruise Begins

Enjoy a free day to explore Dijon. In the afternoon, transfer to the river barge and embark the Danièle. Explore the capital of the Dukes of Burgundy. Dijon was once second only to Paris as a centre of power in France. Visit the Ducal Palace, the local market, and the old town.

Meals included: Breakfast & Dinner.

In Dijon, opt to visit the Ducal Palace, the local market, or go for a mustard tasting, or just wander the beautiful streets of this historic city.

Day 4: Dijon / Longecourt-en-Plaine

Depart Dijon for a full day cycling tour through the Côte de Nuits region along the Route des Grands Crus, lined with lovely vineyards and some of the most picturesque villages in the region. Enjoy a wine tasting in the quaint village of Vougeot before meeting barge in Longecourt-en-Plaine.

Optional ($): Guided tour of Château du Clos de Vougeot.

Day 5: Longecourt-en-Plaine / Saint-Jean-de-Losne

Start the day with a walk around the beautiful lush gardens of Château de Longecourt, a typical Burgundy castle. Continue the morning walking along the canal and looking at the various locks. Enjoy the Burgundy canal as we walk a 5 km (3 mi) stretch of the canal between Longecourt and La Biètre lock. Climb aboard the barge and continue sailing to St-Jean-de-Losne. Free time in the afternoon to visit St-Jean-de-Losne.

Optional ($): Guided tour of Saint-Jean-de-Losne or visit la Musée de la Bataillerie.

Day 6: Saint-Jean-de-Losne / Chalon-sur-Saône

Sail along the Saône River take in picturesque scenes of local life on the shore. Spend a relaxing afternoon walking through the footpaths around Chalon-sur-Saône. Choose to do some shopping in town or relax on board with a glass of local wine.

Meals included: Breakfast & Lunch.

Enjoy a cheese tasting on-board the Danièle.

Day 7: Chalon-sur-Saône / Chagny

Cycle along the Côte de Beaune, stopping at villages and vineyards along the way. Explore the vineyards of Chateau de Chassigny-Montrachet while stopping to sample some wines. This mostly flat ride is an ideal way to experience quintessential Burgundy. Known for the fine quality of white wine, the Côte de Beaune region is especially famous for their wines produced using Chardonnay grapes. Learn about the complexity of grape growth in this region, and how these conditions influence flavour. Upon arriving in Chagny opt to enjoy the surrounding lush greenery on a nature walk, or sit down for a coffee at one of the many quaint cafés in town. Tonight, consider dining tonight at the famous Michelin-starred restaurant in town, Pierre & Jean.

Day 8: Chagny / Saint-Léger-sur-Dheune

Arrive to Santenay in the morning and opt to take a walk around the village, or tour the grounds of the stunning Château de Santenay. Continue cruising to Saint-Léger-sur-Dheune. Enjoy lunch on board while watching the countryside go by. Upon arrival, explore the quaint village or visit the medieval Château de Couches.

Optional: Wine tasting at Château de Couches or tour of Château de Santenay.

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner.

Day 9: Saint-Léger-sur-Dheune / Dijon

After breakfast, catch the group transfer to the train station in Dijon to catch the connector train to Paris. Flight from Paris to eastern Canada gateway.

Accommodations & Amenities

Each doube-occupancy cabin has a window and is equipped with private en-suite facilities (shower and WC), TV, radio, telephone (for internal calls only), safe and independent air-conditioning.

On board, the ship includes a spacious lounge with bar - restaurant - sun deck with loungers and parasols - barbecue deck - jacuzzi - WiFi (when available). Unlimited wine and beer available throughout your voyage.
